PROGRAM PURPOSE

The Bachelor of Arts in English is designed to expose the students to English language and literature for scholarly and practical purposes. The program provides excellent preparation for any profession requiring a higher level of knowledge and comprehension in oral and written communication. The graduates will be prepared for teaching, research, and administrative responsibility. English major is widely recognized as desired preparation for graduate degrees in teaching, journalism, management, and administration. The program is also suitable for students interested in a broad general background in the humanities with a concentration in literature and language and for those interested in obtaining a firm foundation for further study in graduate school levels.

This is a broad-based, multidisciplinary program designed to equip the graduates to meet the demand of the changing society. The program is built on a number of foundation courses of general interests that will broaden horizon of the students. The support courses will directly facilitate the understanding of the core courses.

The B.A. (Hons) in English in VUB is a full time day program. This is a four year program consisting of 12 semesters. Students will be required to do 40 courses consisting of 120 credit hours.
